Summary

Background: Design Project 2 began with diagnosing the patient with given patient history and x-rays. A radiologist would then be consulted with to clarify if the group was on track or correct. In our case the 41 year old man had hip dysplasia causing frequent hip dislocations and groin pain.

Role:Manager

- creating initial Gantt chart

- creating agendas

- keeping group on track

- setting additional meetings

- communicate on the groups behalf

*Gave me the opportunity to enhance my communication

Brainstorming/Designing: Initially I created different medical integrations designs, and gave feedback to all group members. All group members had generally the same idea, and therefore we used the pros of each design and created our final decision. Through the materials lab, I learned methods of testing materials and graphing them on excel. I also learned how to calculate stresses and strain on materials.

Computing Sub-team: In the span of a week I automated calculations of ultimate tensile stress, and displayed risk factors through a response by lights on the raspberry pi. I also created a line graph to show the data collected over a period of time.

Presentation: We then created a poster board, and presented our implant as a group. The presentation was done without any aids. During the presentation my group members took a longer time than intended, therefore I adjusted my speaking pace and memorized script on the spot. Overall strengthening my interpersonal skills.

Overall, design project 2 gave me the opportunity to carry out a leadership role, enhance coding skills, learn the raspberry pi, present, and learn about material selection.
